 إن المجتمع يعاني من ظاهرة لغوية وهي الاختلاط الحاصل بين اللغة العربية الفصحى والعامية، والذي يطلق عليه مصطلح الثنائية اللغوية في الدراسات اللسانية، وتعتبر هذه الظاهرة مشكلة يعاني منها الكبير والصغير. فالثنائية هي تعايش شكليين لغويين في صلب جماعة لغوية واحدة، حيث يكتسب الفرد اللهجة العامية كلغة منشأ فيتعلم اللغة العربية الفصحى في المدرسة وهو في حاجة إليهما معاً لأن كل منهما تتكفل بأداء أغراض ووظائف تبليغية معينة أحدهما للمخاطبات اليومية و آخرى للاستعمالات الرسمية. فالعلاقة بين اللغة العامية واللغة الفصحى هي علاقة الخاص بالعام، فالعامية لم تبتعد تماماً عن الفصحى، حيث بقيت محافظة على كثير من المسائل والأصول الفصيحة سواء كانت أصوات أو مفردات أو تراكيب
